Sedimentary geology and ichnology.

My research focuses on the distribution and evolution of life in lake basins (limnogeology) and marginal marine depositional systems through time. By relating paleoecological (e.g., trace fossils), sedimentological, geochemical, and paleontological evidence to changing environments through time using sequence stratigraphy, we can better understand the external controls (climate, tectonics) on basin development, environments, and the response of organisms to these controls. Presently, I work primarily in the Plio-Pleistocene rift-lake basins of Kenya and the Cretaceous marginal marine and lacustrine systems of Alberta.
