International Studies master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I am an International Relations professional from Brazil who is passionate about social change, human rights and migration.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

The MA in International Studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV caught my interest due to its broad scope, multidisciplinary nature, and the possibility of building regional expertise in Latin America that the program offers.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research focuses on human rights, migration and refugees in Latin America. More specifically, for my primary research at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, I look at how Venezuelan nationals fare in Brazil by examining existing problems they face and offer policy recommendations for improving the integration of Venezuelan refugees and migrants into Brazilian society.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I enjoy learning from professors who are experts in their fields, especially in small-sized classes that allow students to achieve their best performance. I also so much appreciate all the opportunities ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV offers to their students, such as the Work-Study program, which I was part of for three semesters and worked on different research-based projects that taught me a lot.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I was awarded the Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship in Fall 2021 and the Graduate Fellowship in Fall 2021 and Summer 2022. I was also a recipient of the Annie and Leon Josefowicz Memorial Award in Fall 2022, which is intended to recognize and provide financial support to one or more graduate students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who are pursuing research in human rights, humanitarianism, international development or conflict resolution.
