Mechatronic Systems Engineering master's student in the

I am a Master's student in Mechatronic Systems Engineering researching and developing a novel pulsating heat pipe. A pulsating heat pipe is a heat spreading device that aids in the thermal management of many systems. These systems include power electronics, heat recovery, and renewable energy. More personally, I am an avid motorcycle rider/enthusiast and a BC Soccer referee. These two hobbies take up the bulk of my leisure time.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

The ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Surrey campus is steps away from where I was born and raised. I've always wanted to study alongside the award-winning researchers I've learned about over the years. Also, the facilities enable my team and me at Laboratory for Alternative Energy Conversion (LAEC) to use state-of-the-art equipment I would not have access to at other institutions.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research involves spreading heat. In microprocessors and light-emitting diodes, this heat needs to be spread away from critical components. In other cases, such as thermal energy storage, this heat needs to be spread in the desired direction based on demand.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I am enjoying the team environment we have within LAEC. Every member of the team is willing to go above and beyond to help out with the research of others within the team. This is due in part to how intertwined our research is. Advancements in one member's research affect the entire team. I also enjoy the many resources ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has access to, including but not limited to the machine shops, 4D Labs, and the neverending academic journal database.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I am the recipient of the NSERC CGS-M award. The award has given me financial flexibility and the ability to pursue the development of more costly prototypes.
