"I love the collaboration and the active dialogue that is involved in the program. The program provides me a healthy mix of theory, application, collaboration, and production."
Shrey Chamoli
Educational Technology and Learning Design master's student in the Faculty of Education
I am a candidate in the MEd Educational Technology and Learning Design program; currently serving as the Registrar at Ashton College.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
As a proud ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumnus, and after completing my BA in Communication, I decided to pursue the MEd ETLD program since it was truly one of a kind; encompassing both theory and application of the models being investigated. Furthermore, the program affords me the ability to take classroom learning and apply it right to my current role and responsibilities at my workplace. As such, I am very fortunate to be gaining knowledge and the application of that knowledge in my day-to-day operations.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
Technology is the backbone of our current economy. As we progress into the future, there is no field that has not been touched by technology, and the field of education is no exception. In the MEd ETLD program, we strive to design the most rewarding systems and processes for learners by not only leveraging technology but also investigating 'how', 'why, and 'to what extent' we need to leverage technology that we find at our disposal. Ultimately, we plan for a sound approach that will help future learners learn effectively so that they can actively shape, and contribute, to their communities.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I love the collaboration and the active dialogue that is involved in the program. The program provides me a healthy mix of theory, application, collaboration, and production. The class size is small, which provides me and my peers ability to engage in meaningful discussions.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I was awarded the GPS Graduate Fellowship in my first term. The award could not have come at a better time since it afforded me the possibility of not only easing into the program but also assisting me with upgrading technologies that I now use in the program.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM/POSTDOC POSITION TO SOMEONE STILL SEARCHING FOR A PROGRAM OR POSTDOC POSITION?
If you are looking for a robust and a well designed program in the field of Educational Technology that also collaborates with the learning design principles, look no further than the ETLD program. You will thoroughly enjoy your experience at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV where the Faculty is extremely knowledgeable and supportive. You will also benefit from the small class size and the healthy mix of theory and practice. Like you, I also had many questions and doubts when researching a viable program to study. If you find yourself in this position, please feel free to connect with me via my LinkedIn profile shared below and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
