Course Format

This interactive and applied graduate seminar series is designed to actively engage students in exploring and discussing the diverse issues encompassed by the One Health concept.

The course will primarily center around dynamic discussions and weekly reflective journal entries, encouraging students to delve deep into a One Health issue of their choosing. Through the themes explored in the course (e.g., climate change, mental health, health equity, infectious disease  modelling, and knowledge mobilization) students will propose and prioritize potential health  interventions that could be implemented on their chosen issue.

Emphasizing the development of practical skills, students will undertake two major projects: a written knowledge product aimed at both academic and public audiences, in the form of an article for The Conversation, and an audio or visual knowledge product, such as a podcast, infographic, or TikTok video, targeting a different audience of their choosing.

These projects will enable students to communicate their findings effectively and foster a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of health across various domains. Students will also be supported in submitting these products for publication and sharing through the Pacific Institute on Pathogens, Pandemics and Society social media channels.

Schedule

Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:20 PM

Students are expected to work towards public knowledge products based on what they learned in the course. For undergraduate applicants, the workload will be similar to what is expected in a normal undergraduate course.
