Message from the Dean

2024 brought successes and changes. We welcomed new and returning students, celebrating their many achievements including awards and research publications. We celebrated our 364 new alumni at Convocation and wish them every success! We remain confident that their interdisciplinary knowledge, commitment to social justice and health equity, and drive to serve their communities will help them achieve their goals and dreams.

Our FHS community continues to engage on complex local, national, and international health issues, including mental health, the opioid epidemic and, pandemic preparedness. The migration of the BC Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby will skill students and communities to engage in health research that is Indigenous-led and informed by Indigenous world views. FHS faculty continue to successfully launch innovative and transformative projects, forming new collaborations that add to our reputation for research excellence.

Dean Tania Bubela accepted a new leadership role at Aga Khan University – we thank her for her fantastic leadership over the past seven years. Associate Professor David Whitehurst has joined the FHS leadership team for the 2024-25 academic year as Associate Dean, Education.

We coordinated 38 practicums and 134 Co-op placements, launched our newly reformed Bachelor of Arts program, delivered courses for all FHS students, and continue to add student experience programming in the FHS Student Commons and at new field schools. I ask you to join me in recognizing the accomplishments highlighted in our Year in Review and to thank the whole FHS team for creating the conditions to make them happen!
