Health Sciences student awards

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) offers annual undergraduate awards to recognize outstanding students in FHS’ Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programs. The number of FHS awards granted will vary depending on the applicant pool and the award category.

Students may apply for more than one award if they meet the eligibility requirements. Please review the criteria and application instructions for each category (use this checklist to help you manage all of your documents). Successful recipients are announced shortly after the specified closing date and contacted through email.

General Criteria for ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Awards

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and be in good academic standing. 
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.

Submitting Applications

Application instructions will be posted during open award application opening dates. Please check back for more information about how to apply.

Successful recipients will be contacted shortly after the specified closing date through email.

Edoye Porbeni Service Equals Success Award

  • One award valued at $1,230 awarded to a first-year undergraduate student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in the Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Demonstrated history of community service and involvement during high school

Dr. Jack Uppal Award

  • Three awards valued at $2,350 each
  • Demonstrate excellence in community/volunteer services

Pula Award in Health Sciences

  • This award, valued at $1,400, will be granted to an undergraduate student with an approved major or Honours in the Faculty of Health Science
  • Demonstrated history of or interest in doing research work in the area of HIV/AIDS. Preference is given to students in their 3rd or 4th year of study

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation Award in Health Sciences

  • One award valued at $2,000 will be granted to a 4th year undergraduate student majoring in the Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Student has volunteered in a hospital or healthcare setting

Lina's Dream Award in Health Sciences

  • One award valued at $10,000
  • Expressed interest in pursuing a career in medicine, health care, public health or health and wellness and demonstrated volunteer service in helping others

Joanne Tattle Award in Health Sciences

  • One award valued at $10,000
  • The student has interest to pursue a career in medicine, health care, public health or health and wellness and demonstrate volunteer service in helping others.

Patrick D. Morawski Memorial Award for Ethical Engagement

One award valued at $1,000, will be granted annually to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • is enrolled full-time with a major in any program within the Faculty of Health Sciences at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV; 
  • is in good academic standing;
  • has demonstrated leadership to advancing an understanding of public health ethics and advocating for vulnerable populations, and those with a career interest within the health profession.

Note: Preference will be given to students entering their final year of study

Faculty of Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Awards

Each year we accept nominations during May for the following categories:

  • FHS Award for Citizenship and Exemplary Academic Performance
  • FHS Award for Outstanding Service to the Faculty of Health Sciences
  • FHS Award for Outstanding Community Service
  • FHS Award for Extraordinary Achievement

Nominations may be made by students, staff, or faculty, and a student may be nominated and/or apply for more than one award.
