Insight Development Grants (IDG)

The IDG funding enables the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas.  This is an excellent opportunity for new scholar(s) / researcher(s) to explore new research. Also, this funding permits seasoned researcher(s) to develop/explore new avenues of research. Researchers may only apply for and hold, as applicant, only one IDG at a time.

SSHRC Partnership Grants - Stage 1

Partnership Grants provide support for new and existing formal partnerships over 4 to 7 years to advance research, research training and/or knowledge mobilization.

Mitacs Elevate Postdoc Fellowships

Mitacs Elevate trains emerging research management leaders through an exclusive professional skills curriculum. Fellows gain theoretical and experiential training in areas such as project management and presentations.

SSHRC Partnership Engage Grants

The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through the Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. There are 4 application deadlines throughout the year (Mar 15, Jun 15, Sept 15, and Dec 15).  The grants are valued at $7,000 to $25,000 over one year.

Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize

VPR Travel Grants, Social Sciences/Humanities - Pool 1

VPR Research Travel Grants are provided for faculty in areas supported by SSHRC to attend North American (max. $900) and international (max. $2,000) conferences to present a paper (including poster presentation).

  • Applications for conferences taking place between April 1, 2020 - August 31, annually.

SSHRC Impact Talent Award

Recognizes individuals who maintains academic excellence, has a talent for research and knowledge mobilization and has demonstrated clear potential to be a future leader within and/or outside the academic sector. The nomination process for this award is managed through the Dean of Graduate Studies Office.

  • Maximum Award: $50,000 CAD

SSHRC Impact Gold Medal

Recognizes sustained leadership, dedication and originality of thought and have inspired students and colleagues alike. Institution submits nominations to SSHRC.

  • Maximum Award: $100,000 CAD

SSHRC Impact Connection Award

Recognizes individuals or teams whose SSHRC-funded project has engaged the campus and/or wider community, and has generated intellectual, cultural, social and/or economic impacts. Nominations submitted by the institution.

  • Maximum Award: $50,000 CAD

SSHRC Impact Insight Award

Recognizes individuals or teams whose project has resulted in significant contribution to knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world. These are institutional and limited submission nominations.

SSHRC Impact Partnership Award

Awards a formal partnership that, through mutual co-operation and shared intellectual leadership and resources, has demonstrated impact and influence within and/or beyond the social sciences and humanities research community. These are institutional and limited submission nominations.

Grawemeyer Award for Education

Stimulates the dissemination, public scrutiny and implementation of ideas that have potential to bring about significant improvement in educational practice and advances in educational attainment.

Anneliese Maier Research Award

For researchers in the fields of the humanities and social sciences whose scientific achievements have been internationally recognized in their research area and from whose research collaboration with specialist colleagues in Germany a sustainable contribution is expected towards the further internationalization of the humanities and social sciences in Germany.

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV University Publications Fund: Single Event, Serial Event, and Rapid Response Publications

The University Publications Fund (UPF) is established under the authority of the Vice-President, Research for the purpose of providing support to faculty and staff of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV for their academic publications. Rapid Response Publications submissions are accepted year-round. Single and Serial Event Publication submissions are accepted annually: April 12th - May 12th.

Recognizes individuals who have made a sustained and substantial contribution to educational research.

SSHRC Small Spring Intake

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV/SSHRC Small Research Grants support scholarly research in the contemporary arts, humanities and social sciences for expenses up to a maximum of $7,000. A lead applicant, together with one or more eligible co-investigators may apply in a single application for up to a maximum of $10,000.

Killam Prizes

Awarded to active (not retired) Canadian scholars who have made a substantial and significant contribution over a significant period to scholarly research.

Global Young Academy (GYA) Membership

The ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV-Mitacs Globalink Research Award provides $6,000 for senior undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to conduct 12–24-week research projects at universities overseas.

Griffith University and ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Collaborative Travel Grant's are awarded for the purpose of expanding cooperation, exchange ideas and research collaborations between our two institutions in the following areas: Drug discovery; Environmental sciences and environmental planning; Forest ecology, forest management and climate change adaptation; Behavioural and cognitive neuroscience; Mental health and addiction; Public health; Bioinformatics and genomics; Big Data; Criminology; Business; Tourism Musicology; and such other areas as the parties shall agree.
