In Memoriam: Brian Pate
It is with heavy hearts that we recently learned about the passing of Brian Pate. Brian was the founding department chair of Chemistry at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and passed away on August 28, 2023 at the age of 95.
Born in Leyton, England on February 11, 1928, Brian graduated with a BSc degree in Chemistry in 1949 and joined ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 1965 where he was the founding head of the Chemistry department until 1970. He was instrumental in establishing the department and was involved in hiring many of the first faculty members.
He would go on to become the Associate Director of TRIUMF and his expertise and guidance helped shape the success of Chemistry at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. His legacy lives on in the memories of his colleagues, the knowledge he imparted, and department he helped establish.
