Research Interests
Corina is an experimental gamma-ray spectroscopist. Her research is based on experiments she leads at international laboratories including TRIUMF in Vancouver, INFN Legnaro in Padova, Italy, ILL Grenoble in France, and ANL near Chicago in the US.
Corina is interested in measuring fundamental properties of exotic nuclei using large gamma-ray spectometers in order to understand the underlying nuclear structure governing isotopes. This underlying structure is analogous to the atomic structure of elements, with sets of closed particle shells, called magic numbers, akin to the noble gases. Her current focus is on neutron-rich nuclei closed to the doubly-magic Ni-78 and Sn-132 nuclei to investigate phenomena such as shape coexistence and evolution of nuclear shells far from stability. These nuclei are produced at experimental facilities around the world using both stable and radioactive isotopes and various methods in order to study their properties before they decay into a different element.
Corina recently joined the LEGEND-1000 collaboration to search for neutrinoless double beta decay in Ge-76. If observed, this exotic decay will challenge our current understanding on neutrinos and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe.
