Mathematics master's student in the Faculty of Science

I am a MSc candidate in Mathematics from Atlantic Canada. My undergraduate degree is from St. Francis Xavier University. When I am not working, I enjoy a good book or movie.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has a very strong mathematics department, particularly in my area of research. Furthermore, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV being a west coast school means that along with receiving a wonderful education, I can explore a whole part of Canada I have never experienced before.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research is focused on graph theory and combinatorics. That is the study of mathematical objects which are non-continuous, with a particular focus on graphs (networks), games, and finite sets of numbers. Many problems I study have natural application and implications to problems in computer science and the theory of computational complexity.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I deeply enjoy the social aspect of my mathematical work. This often comes in the form of collaboration during research projects, but can also happen while working with other students for our course work.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I am very fortunate to have received an NSERC CGS-M during my first year at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV (2022-2023).

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM/POSTDOC POSITION TO SOMEONE STILL SEARCHING FOR A PROGRAM OR POSTDOC POSITION?

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has a large math department which provides the opportunity for a broad and collaborative graduate school experience.
