"The partnership between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and TRIUMF, as well as the strong female leadership in the research group was very appealing to me in my pursuit to become a radiochemist."
Aivija Grundmane
Chemistry doctoral student in the Faculty of Science
I am a first year Chemistry PhD candidate currently working on radionuclide production, purification and chelation. When I am not in the lab, you can find me reading a book or being mesmerised by BC nature!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
The partnership between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and TRIUMF, as well as the strong female leadership in the research group was very appealing to me in my pursuit to become a radiochemist.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
I am working on producing, purifying and binding radioactive antimony to organic molecules for the use of radiotherapy in cancer treatment.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I have been enjoying the interdisciplinary aspect of my research. Having the opportunity to work with scientists specialised in different fields has really helped me grow as a scientist myself and has made the grad school experience much more enjoyable.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
GPS Graduate Fellowship for Fall 2021 As a new international graduate student, this award was impactful, helping me get settled in Vancouver without worrying about tuition fees for the semester.
