Physics master's student in the Faculty of Science

My name is Adrian Yeung and I am a first-year Master's student working with Dr. Barbara Frisken on polymer membrane fuel cells. I was born in Vancouver, and thus I am a local. For my undergraduate Physics Honours degree at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV as well, I worked on the analysis of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of W bosons with Dr. Bernd Stelzer.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I chose to come to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV because of the excellent research that the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV physics department is involved in. In addition, the attitudes ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV encourages makes ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV a leader in community engagement.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I would say that I am trying to understand the fundamental properties of nature and I seek to be able to explain why our world is the way it is.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I am enjoying the tight physics community at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. They are a vibrant diverse community of individuals that are all involved in exciting research in various areas.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I received the Special Grad Entrance Scholarship. The award has enabled me to pursue research without as much financial concerns as I otherwise would have had. Not having to work another part-time job in addition to teaching assistantships greatly increases the amount of time I can commit to performing research.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM/POSTDOC POSITION TO SOMEONE STILL SEARCHING FOR A PROGRAM OR POSTDOC POSITION?

While my program is not easy, it is quite rewarding - working with leading physicists in groundbreaking fields, learning about the universe and nature.
