I am a M.Sc. student working in condensed matter theory. I grew up in a small town in Germany close to the Alpes, and moved to Canada six years ago. In my free time I enjoy playing board games, baking, and doing yoga.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
During my undergraduate studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, I worked with Dr. Malcolm Kennett for my Honours thesis project. I knew that I would like to pursue graduate studies in Condensed Matter Theory, so it was an easy decision to continue working with Dr. Kennett.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
I study the dynamical properties of systems of many interacting quantum particles theoretically. Insights from this work will help inform development of next generation materials that may be relevant for future electronic devices and quantum computation.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I really enjoy the environment the physics department has created and I appreciate how much effort is being put into keeping everyone connected. Even though most research and classes are online at the moment, I still feel very in touch with the physics community.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR FUNDED AWARDS?
I received the Graduate Dean's Entrance Scholarship and the Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship. These made it possible for me to focus on my research and course work without having to find any additional employment.
