"Our cities play an important role in influencing our physical and mental health. I am interested in understanding how cities can be designed to preserve, protect, and promote health for everyone."
Zarah Monfaredi
PhD student in the Faculty of Health Sciences
I am a PhD student in the Faculty of Health Sciences working with Dr. Meghan Winters. Before coming to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, I completed my MSc in Global Health and Public Policy at The University of Edinburgh and completed an Honours BSc in Life Sciences at McMaster University. I have experience working with the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) in Ottawa as a Program Facilitator. When I'm not thinking about research, I'm likely doing something active outside.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
My background prior to starting my doctoral studies was in patient engagement, so when I saw the level of and commitment to community engagement across ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, I felt like it was the best fit.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
Our cities play an important role in influencing our physical and mental health. I am interested in understanding how cities can be designed to preserve, protect, and promote health for everyone.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I am really enjoying being part of a dynamic research team where my supervisor and colleagues are extremely supportive and encouraging. The Faculty of Health Sciences also offers an interesting interdisciplinary environment, so I am enjoying learning about all the research being conducted around me.
