Alex Sodeman
Geography PhD student in the
I am an American from Toledo, Ohio. I like glaciers, rocks, and mountains, two of which are hard to come by in Ohio.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I came to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV because of the excellent research being done on subglacial, meltwater-derived landforms in British Columbia. Also the mountains, ocean, and everything about British Columbia.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
My research involves mapping and characterizing landforms that we suspect were generated at the base of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet. I am interested in understanding how these landforms were generated and in how we can use them to reconstruct the dynamics of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet and the movement of meltwater at the base of the ice sheet.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I have been enjoying the stimulating discussions with my peers, even if it is all by Zoom.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR FUNDED AWARDS?
