"I have been fortunate to receive a SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship and the British Columbia Graduate Scholarship. These awards have allowed me to be more productive in my research and research dissemination."
Samuel Freeze
Clinical Psychology master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I am a master's student in the Clinical Psychology program. My research interests are eclectic but include psychopathy, violence, and risk assessment.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I began my studies at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, where I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant under a clinical-forensic psychologist. My experience in this role led me to want to continue to ask questions and answer them (i.e., research) and pursue a clinical practice in the area of clinical forensic psychology. ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV was a natural next step due to its excellent training program and established forensic track.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
To describe my research, I will typically just say that I try to understand how and why people make certain decisions (e.g., decisions to act violently). Specifically, I am interested in how mental disorders may or may not contribute to these decisions.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
The faculty are exceptional. They are approachable, knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely want you to succeed.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I have been fortunate to receive a SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship and the British Columbia Graduate Scholarship. These awards have allowed me to be more productive in my research and research dissemination.
