"The urban studies program was the best option I found. The program had a great faculty with many renowned professors in a University with a great concept in Canada and internationally."
Leandro Corrêa
Urban Studies master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I am passionate about urban transportation and its challenges, and truly believe that increasing sustainable transportation is a relevant social and environmental answer to problems like inequality and climate change.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
As I had a good professional background in public transportation, I searched for a program where I could advance my knowledge of public transportation as a vital component of the urban environment. The urban studies program was the best option I found. The program had a great faculty with many renowned professors in a University with a great concept in Canada and internationally.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
My research is about how friendly our cities will be in future in terms of urban mobility, considering the consequences of our present choices like when private trips or ride-hailing substitutes public transit.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I could learn so much with all my professors, and in special with my supervisor, Professor Anthony Perl. I had many opportunities to research and learn, which made me grow as a professional and student and supported my studies financially in Canada.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I received the Lambda Alpha Intl Vancouver Annual Grad (2021 - Fall) and the Graduate Fellowship from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV (2019 Fall, 2021 Summer, 2022 Spring). I also received a grant, with Professor Anthony Perl, from the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS - Fast Track Project). These awards and grants were essential for my family and me, especially during the pandemic. Not only for the money, which was extremely important but also to push me further in my studies and keep me busy and focused on learning and improving my skills on urban mobility.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM/POSTDOC POSITION TO SOMEONE STILL SEARCHING FOR A PROGRAM OR POSTDOC POSITION?
That's a place where you can really learn and advance your knowledge as an academic. Many opportunities are available and an excellent faculty is ready to welcome good students willing to learn and work.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE?
