Public Policy master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I'm currently in the Master's of Public Policy program, concentrating in environmental, food, and social policy. I am originally from Calgary, Alberta, and graduated from the University of Calgary with a major in Sociology and a minor in Development Studies. I developed my interest in climate change and its effects on our food system throughout my undergrad. I knew policy work was the route for me to create greater change.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

Many of my values and future goals align with ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's mission and culture. ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is deeply involved and committed to sustainability and its emphasis on climate action, which was my main attraction. Additionally, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's MPP program is highly acclaimed for incorporating Co-op opportunities into its program and provides students technical skills for future policy work.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research is on policies to help food insecure communities and strengthen local food systems.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I enjoy the interpersonal conversations and connections with professors in my faculty. These connections were rare during my undergrad, so I very much appreciate the care and support from my professors.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I received the Graduate Fellowship for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022; both awards allowed me to focus on my research and studies while maintaining a school-life balance.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM/POSTDOC POSITION TO SOMEONE STILL SEARCHING FOR A PROGRAM OR POSTDOC POSITION?

The Master of Public Policy program at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV provides valuable and practical skills for anyone interested in policy work. The program provides opportunities to connect with people within different policy fields through Co-ops, policy spotlights, etc.
