- Individualized Interdisciplinary Studies in Graduate Studies
I saw an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced faculty members who have extensive knowledge to share. Moreover, the university's commitment to community engagement, equity, and diversity is a value I share.
Marina Candeia
International Studies master's student in the
I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. I am originally from Brazil but have lived in Canada since 2015 and have found myself at home here. I have a Bachelor of Human Justice from the University of Regina and a few years of work experience in non-profit organizations. My research interests are in international human rights, human security, and social justice, particularly in Latin America.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
One of the reasons I chose to come to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is that the MA in International Studies closely aligns with my research and academic interests. I saw an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced faculty members who have extensive knowledge to share. Moreover, the university's commitment to community engagement, equity, and diversity is a value I share.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
The MA in International studies is an interdisciplinary program which allows me to deepen my knowledge of global issues such as governance, security, migration, and international cooperation, for instance. My research is in its initial stage and revolves around the intersection between international law, the collective right to security, and the work of citizen-led organizations to promote this right in Indigenous communities.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
What I enjoy the most about studying at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is the many opportunities I've had to discuss relevant topics with other students in my cohort. My classes have all been very engaging and have created many opportunities for thought-provoking conversations between people of different fields.
