Criminology master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I am originally from Vancouver Island and have been living in Vancouver to complete my studies. West coast through and through! My interests include art, reading, and hiking.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I always had an interest in law and crime, so I figured Criminology was my best option to explore these interests. I knew ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV had a great program and the rest is history.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

If I were to explain it to my mom, I would do it very delicately as I study intimate partner homicide. Telling anyone about my research can be tough, as it is a sensitive topic, but I mostly say that I aim to prevent victimization with my research.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

My supervisor is absolutely amazing. She supports all of my research and school work beyond anything I could ever have expected and I am very grateful. Shout out to Dr. Lysova!

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I have been funded by the prestigious SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship, as well as two university-level scholarships (Liz Elliot Memorial Graduate Scholarship and Dr. E.A. Fattah Graduate Scholarship). Without these awards, I would not be able to continue my work in intimate partner violence and homicide or even live in Vancouver. These awards have also encouraged me to potentially go onto Ph.D. level work as I can now afford to do so.
