"I have received excellent mentorship both in research and clinical training and have made many friendships that I hope will continue beyond my degree."
Jessica Ferreira
Clinical Psychology doctoral student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I am a PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. I am particularly interested in the dyadic effects of emotion regulation on relationship and sexual satisfaction, and the implications these effects have for individuals and couples seeking treatment.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I chose ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV because of the excellent training program in clinical psychology and the unique opportunity to work with faculty members, such as my senior supervisor Dr. Rebecca Cobb, whose research interests closely align with my own.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
Satisfying sexual and romantic relationships are critical for life satisfaction and wellbeing, however many people find that their relationships and sex lives are not as fulfilling as they would like. My research focuses on understanding what factors are associated with satisfaction so that we can help individuals and their partners have more enjoyable sexual and romantic relationships and improve overall quality of life. In particular, my research is focused on how emotion regulation skills may contribute to relationship and sexual satisfaction.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I have met so many wonderful people at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. I have received excellent mentorship both in research and clinical training and have made many friendships that I hope will continue beyond my degree.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
This year I am the recipient of a SSHRC CGS-D award. I am very grateful to have received this award as it allows me to be able to focus on my studies, research, and clinical training with less financial burden.
