English master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I was born and raised in East Van. Outside of my studies, I'm a poet and a musician. During the pandemic, I've come to enjoy exploring the city on my bike.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

Partially because I did my undergrad here, but also because my research interests include local Vancouver history and poetry.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I am currently working on a project that examines the relationship between cultural production and gentrification. While I'm certainly interested in how artists can contribute to gentrification, I'm more concerned with how cultural groups can be involved in community organizing. My research takes me everywhere from individual poems written in Vancouver, to how architecture affects everyday experience, and even to the larger class dynamics at play in the city.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

The community in my department and among my cohort.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

Apart from the SSHRC CGS award, I've received a Contemporary Literature Research Award, the Temple Maynard Graduate Scholarship, and a Graduate Fellowship. This funding has been essential for allowing me to focus on my studies.
