"I am enjoying getting to know the intelligent and dedicated people in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's English Department. I have a lot of admiration for the tireless faculty, and for my fellow cohort members."
Catherine Hogg
English master's student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I am a Master's student in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's English Department. I aspire to teach at a university level one day.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I chose to pursue my Master's degree at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV because of the positive experience I had here during my undergrad.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
I am currently working on a project that explores the tension that exists in literary scholarship between 'serious' literature and 'popular' literature. I am hoping to discover what this tension suggests about the types of stories that are considered worthy of being academically studied.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I am enjoying getting to know the intelligent and dedicated people in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's English Department. I have a lot of admiration for the tireless faculty, and for my fellow cohort members.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
I was awarded the SSHRC CGS Master's Scholarship and the Aphra Behn Grad Scholarship. These awards have allowed me to truly dedicate myself to my studies.
