doctoral student in the Faculty of Education

I am a PhD candidate and adult education researcher. I work for a national blended online learning project funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. My scholarship is in adult education and digital technologies with a focus on multiliteracies, adult literacy, second language education, and newcomer settlement.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I came to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV mid-career after 20 years of experience working for not-for-profits as project coordinator, researcher, and evaluator in basic skills education and newcomer settlement. My desire to support learners and educators in adult education programs in these sectors and my passion about digital equity is what brought me to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I would say that I am interested in documenting adult learners’ experiences with digital access, literacy, and problem-solving in interactions with resources and services online. I would add that I am hoping to support adult education programs, the work of educators, and learners to achieve their goals, with my research.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

Studying at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has allowed me to immerse myself in issues of digital equity that had emerged throughout my career in more depth . Engaging with issues of digital access and use through scholarly work has been instrumental in my understanding of adult learners' experiences and the ways educators support learning.
