"I have enjoyed the collegial atmosphere that has led to connections with other doctoral colleagues that have resulted in academic and personal relationships."
Robline Davey
My research interests are centered around the intersection of Indigenous student experience, Indigenous pedagogy, educational technology and learning design. I completed my M.Ed in 2019 and just begun my doctoral program with a similar focus. I have a background in educational technology, from a practitioner perspective and worked in the marketing sector previous to that.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I chose ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV primarily because there is a program with a specific focus on educational technology and learning design. I felt this edcuation would provide a basis for understanding the technological aspects of my research, and support my interests in learning design.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
I am working on examining how we interact online, how learning communities that are so integral to learning, create barriers or challenges to those learners from non-dominant cultures who are enrolled in post-secondary online education.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
I have just begun my second year in the program and so far, the content of the seminar has enhanced my understanding of the educational tech and learning design history as well as current trends. I have enjoyed the collegial atmosphere that has led to connections with other doctoral colleagues that have resulted in academic and personal relationships. I'm looking forward to the next semesters, despite being solely online, have been excellent so far.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR FUNDED AWARDS?
I am extremely grateful to have received the Dean's Graduate Entrance Award and NEIHR Network Doctoral Scholarship, which have been instrumental in, not only validating my research, but also in providing funding that will support the research process as I embark on the various research activities towards my dissertation.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM FOR THOSE SEARCHING.
I would encourage anyone considering research to think about this program. The ETLD program in Education is supportive of various disciplines and the inherently interdisciplinary nature supports a variety of academic backgrounds, and will, in my view, encourage rich academic outcomes to improve teaching practice.
