Tell us a little about yourself, including what inspires you to learn and continue in your chosen field
I would like to play a significant role in strengthening manufacturing capability and capacity within Canada’s technology sector. My former employer, Rocket Lab Ltd. (Auckland, NZ) has highly skilled labour. I experienced how manufacturing can be domesticated through the use of modern equipment, software and business processes. During the program, I hope to hear about how other businesses leverage technology-driven innovations to optimize their workforce.
Why did you choose to come to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?
MBA program related to technology.
How would you describe your research or your program to a family member?
I learn about how technology affects decision making in a business setting.
What three (3) keywords would you use to describe your research?
Manufacturing. Education. Enablement.
How have your courses, RA-ships, TA-ships, or non-academic school experiences contributed to your academic and/or professional development?
I get to listen, engage and understand how 40 of my classmates utilize technology in their business.
Have you been the recipient of any major or donor-funded awards? If so, please tell us which ones and a little about how the awards have impacted your studies and/or research
John Ellis Grad Business Entrance Scholarship Award. The award has allowed me to move from New Zealand to Canada and learn from experienced instructors close to where technologies are born.
What have been the most valuable lessons you've learned along your graduate student journey (or in becoming a graduate student)?
Perfection is not always required, however, good conclusions are. Making connections is just as important as course material. Listening to everyone's perspectives is important in building trust.
How do you approach networking and building connections in and outside of your academic community?
I rarely come across someone unwilling to help. The more I reach out, the more responses I get.
What are some tips for balancing your academic and personal life?
Setting time limits on classwork and scheduling time for friends, family and myself.
If you could dedicate your research to anyone (past, present and/or future), who would that be and why?
My partner, Christine. I would not be in this program and wouldn't make it out of this program without her support.
