Congratulations to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's 2021 3MT Winners
While this year's ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV-wide Three Minute Thesis Competition was held virtually, the competitors were extremely strong. The three judges: Catherine Dauvergne, Vice-President, Academic and Provost; Dugan O'Neil, Vice-President, Research and International; and, Diana Hunter, President, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Postdoctoral Association, had a difficult time ranking the presentations.
Finalists were selected from heats conducted earlier in:
- Faculty of Applied Sciences
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Environment
- Faculty of Science
And, for the first time, a western final competition was held in French. In collaboration with the Association Francophone pour le Savoir (Acfas), the University of Alberta (U of A), the University of British Columbia (UBC) and ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs, " on May 5, 2021. Manon Picard, a biology doctoral student in the Faculty of Science will be moving to the National Final.
We are pleased to announce our three winners:

Em is a doctoral student in biology and is focused on the role of marine animal in recycling nutrients. [NSERC CGS-D (2023), NSERC CGS-M (2020), and BC Graduate Scholarship (2020)]

Erin is a master's student who is researching fainting. (CIHR CGS Masters Scholarship)

Nic is a Biomedical Engineering Science master’s student working on a very sensitive magnetic field sensor that used to detect the tiny fields your brain produces.
Western Regional Competition
Em will be moving to the next round of competition: 3MT Western Regionals, held this year at Athabasca University.
