Robert Hogg named FHS’s new Associate Dean, Research
has been appointed as the new Associate Dean, Research in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).
Hogg will lead the ongoing implementation of FHS’s strategic research plan and oversee various research projects and initiatives in each of the faculty’s six major research challenge areas.
“I am excited to have Bob join the FHS leadership team,” says FHS dean Tania Bubela. “In addition to a high profile interdisciplinary research career, Bob is a committed research mentor. I am looking forward to working with Bob in furthering the research success of our faculty and students.”
Hogg has established an international reputation for his work in population health research with emphasis on HIV/AIDS, antiretroviral therapy, and marginalized populations. His research has helped advance treatment approaches across cultures and communities both locally and abroad. Hogg has been a member of the Faculty of Health Sciences since 2006, where he helped to establish the .
“As the new Associate Dean, Research, I look forward to working with researchers from a diverse range of disciplines. While the areas of study we study in FHS are broad, we are united by our commitment to social justice, improving health and reducing health inequities.” says Hogg. “I hope to collaborate and create partnerships, not just with colleagues in FHS, but also in other AV faculties and academic institutions across the country and around the world.”
Earlier this year, he was one of eight faculty members to be named Distinguished AV Professor, not only recognizing his outstanding scientific achievements, but also highlighting his impact through public engagement, and student and faculty mentorship.
In addition, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the and also a member of the Order of Canada. His research has received support from the National Institutes of Health, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
“My favourite thing about FHS is its diversity,” Hogg notes. “The interdisciplinary nature of the faculty creates a strong environment that fosters excellence in research, teaching and learning. I am honoured to lead the FHS research team in continuing to search for ways to improve health and well-being for all.”
