Biography

Dr. Milad Parpouchi is a lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and an applied health scientist affiliated with the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction (CARMHA). He is also the Co-President of the Alumni Executive Committee at the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. Dr. Parpouchi earned three academic degrees from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. He first earned a BA in health sciences and went on to earn a practice-based master’s degree in public health (MPH). Most recently, Dr. Parpouchi earned a doctorate in health sciences specializing in mental health and addiction recovery. Dr. Parpouchi has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work addressing the health and human rights of marginalized populations, and he is a former Canadian Institutes of Health Research doctoral scholar and a Trudeau Foundation scholar. Dr. Parpouchi’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been featured in print and broadcast media. He has also presented his findings at numerous scientific meetings and public events across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Research Interests

Dr. Parpouchi’s research investigates health and social interventions that promote recovery among people experiencing complex challenges, including addiction, mental illness, and homelessness. He has led research investigating opioid agonist treatment among people experiencing multiple barriers to care, including homelessness. Dr. Parpouchi has also led initiatives examining patients’ access to harm reduction services and reforming mental health services to be more inclusive of family members, caregivers, and patients. Most recently, Dr. Parpouchi has contributed to the development of provincial guidelines for recovery-oriented interventions among people experiencing substance use disorders.
