Biography
As a repository assistant, Ashley is the sole dedicated staff member caring for the artifacts, samples, and other materials held at the Katzie First Nation Artifact Storage Facility on behalf of the Katzie First Nation. Her duties were to develop policy and procedures, liaise with First Nations and community members, mentor junior archaeologists and field technicians in repository settings and assist in planning and supervising lab duties for archaeological field programs.
Ashley graduated with a bachelor of arts in archaeology and humanities. In her time as an undergradraduate student, she was an executive member of the Archaeology Student Society and produced an award-winning podcast.
Biography
Alyna is a climate change junior policy analyst at the BC Assembly of First Nations. In her time as an undergrad, she worked at Embark Sustainability as a food justice program coordinator and completed Co-op work terms with BC Housing and BC Assembly of First Nations.
Alyna graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of environment in resource and environmental management in the planning stream.
Biography
Chantelle is a forensic identification examiner with the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services, where she locates, develops, analyzes and compares crime scene evidence such as fingerprints and footwear impressions. During her time as an undergraduate student, Chantelle completed an 8-month Co-op placement with the RCMP in their Forensic Identification Services department and took advantage of extra-curricular activities, such as participating and presenting in research symposiums.
Chantelle graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of arts in archaeology.
Biography
As an integrated pest management supervisor at E.S. Cropconsult Ltd., Dee provides professional consulting in pest and disease monitoring to local growers for berry crops during the growing season. Throughout the rest of the year, she conducts and assists in agricultural research projects.
Dee graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of science in physical geography and a certificate in spatial information systems. Outside work, she also has an interest in traditional Indigenous and ecological agriculture from around the world.
Biography
Since 2013, Maziar has been working for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in various capacities including, Operations Manager, Area Manager and Electrical Services / Pavement Marking Manager. He is currently the District Manager for the Lower Mainland.
During his time with the Ministry of Transportation, he has had the opportunity to be involved in various aspects of large projects, such as proponent proposal evaluations, stakeholder consultation and overall contract management. As the District Manager, he works closely with municipalities and regional districts to understand transportation priorities and works collaboratively to prioritize funding to achieve mutual objectives.
Maziar graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of arts in human geography with an environmental specialty and a certificate in spatial information systems. As an undergradraduate student, he was heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, including being an active member of the Geography Student Union as well as a Board Member for the SFSS.
Biography
Elyse is a built environment coordinator at Community Energy Association who focuses on energy efficiency and emissions reduction through home retrofitting projects. Her experience includes crafting a municipal climate action plan, teaching climate change fundamentals and collaborating with Indigenous Nations to advance long-term community resiliency plans.
Elyse graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of environment in resource and environmental management. She was a climate action volunteer at Embark Sustainability and was also involved with ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV350 during her time as an undergraduate student.
Biography
Greg is an experienced archaeologist and the owner and principal of Campfire Archaeology and Heritage Ltd. Throughout his career, Greg has worked with a number of well established archaeological consulting firms in B.C. and has also conducted excavations and research in France, Papua New Guinea and Australia.
Greg was a sessional instructor at Capilano University from 2016–2023. He graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of arts in archaeology in 2003 and returned to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV to complete his master’s degree in archaeology in 2009. He then graduated with a PhD in archaeology from Monash University, Australia in 2018.
Biography
Paolo is a project lead and biotechnologist at ONT Holdings, a start-up focused on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) using microalgae to capture atmospheric carbon dioxide.
During his undergraduate degree, Paolo completed co-op work terms as an urban researcher with Pivot Canada, a student research assistant with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada and as a tech assistant with GenomeMe.
Paolo graduated with a bachelor of science (honours) in environmental science with a concentration in applied biology.
Biography
Hafsa is an environmental planner at the City of Burnaby, leading environmental stewardship initiatives and researching environmental practices and policies to support city-wide plans. Prior to this, she held a number of interesting positions, including research analyst at the District of North Vancouver, environmental services coordinator at Fraser Valley Regional District and research assistant at Agriculture and Agri-food Canada.
In her time as an undergraduate student, she completed two Co-op work terms with the City of Chilliwack as an environmental services coordinator, which turned into a full-time position after graduation. She completed a bachelor of science in environmental science and returned to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV to complete a master’s degree in resource management, environmental planning.
Biography
Ginny is a senior policy analyst at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). She has worked in a variety of roles at DFO, including in aquaculture licensing and aquaculture policy (most recently on the Transition Plan for salmon aquaculture in BC). Currently, she supports DFO’s work to advance reconciliation through fisheries agreements in the Negotiations and Implementation Division.
In her work, Ginny loves being the bridge between science and policy, and specializes in translating information from technical and operational staff into accessible briefing documents for decision makers.
She graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of science in environmental science and a certificate in corporate environmental and social sustainability. She went on to pursue a master’s in public policy, also at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. During her first degree, Ginny was heavily involved with Science AL!VE, teaching youth, developing curriculum, training staff and leading this impactful science outreach program. As a graduate student, Ginny was a teaching assistant for multiple undergraduate geography and environmental science courses.
Biography
Chad is a designated Articling Agrologist (AAg), an Environmental Professional in training (EPt) and a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Specialist (CPESC).
He works at Hatfield as an environmental technician, which involves data collection, environmental monitoring and reporting. Prior to that he was a research field technician in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Faculty of Environment and completed two Co-op work terms with Environment and Climate Change Canada as a hydrometric assistant. Chad graduated with a bachelor of science in environmental science and a GIS certificate.
Biography
Serena is an urban planner and GIS specialist passionate about addressing complex challenges by linking data-driven insights and community engagement. Through spatial analysis and community dialogue, she works to uncover patterns to reveal the real-world impact of policies on everyday lives.
She is currently a planner at MODUS Planning, Design & Engagement. Prior to that, she was a GIS research assistant at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and a freelance GIS consultant. Serena graduated from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV with a bachelor of arts in geography and a certificate in spatial information systems.
