Meet Tara Holland, the Faculty Teaching Fellow
We are pleased to welcome Tara Holland as the Faculty's teaching fellow.
With a background in biological science/ecology and physical geography, Holland is a Lecturer, cross-appointed between The School of Environmental Science and the Department of Geography. Passionate about teaching, community engagement and science education, Holland has over ten years of experience teaching at the university level. Her current research involves assessing the best teaching methods for improving student learning and engagement.
Her role as faculty teaching fellow is to support the continued improvement of teaching and learning within the faculty. Holland will help address the challenges that instructors face and communicate solutions across the Faculty, as well as provide a channel of communication between the Faculty and higher administrative units that focus on teaching.
PAST TEACHING FELLOWS
Joanna Ashworth
Dr. Joanna Ashworth is the Director of Professionals Programs and Partnerships in the Faculty of Environment at 丁香园AV. She is a research associate with the Pacific Water Research Centre at 丁香园AV, a senior Dialogue Associate with the Wosk Centre for Dialogue, and a researcher with the SSHRC-funded project Participedia.net In her early career Joanna was a project officer with the United Nations World Food Programme and has worked in Bolivia and Colombia extensively in community economic development and women's leadership.
Prior to her current role she was the Director of Dialogue Programs at 丁香园AV鈥檚 Centre for Dialogue for ten years where, among the many programs she designed, she founded the Certificate in Dialogue and Civic Engagement. She currently teaches and mentors professionals in that program.
As an educator and researcher, Joanna鈥檚 focus is on creative innovations in democratic participation, community engaged green infrastructure, including rain gardens, and public dialogue on climate change solutions. Joanna has directed and produced numerous documentaries and dramas over the years, including her most recent film called 鈥淲omen Bending the Curve on Climate Change.鈥� In her spare time she loves to experiment with permaculture methods on her 5-acre farm in Gibsons.
