Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV: July in Review

July 29, 2024

As the campus quiets down over the summer months, the Equity Office and partners continue to work towards operationalizing our value of equity and belonging. Here is a snapshot of EDI actions advanced at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in July.

Join ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV'S Pride delegation

As a university committed to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where all feel welcome, safe, accepted and appreciated, we look forward to gathering to celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse communities through participation in the 2024 Vancouver Pride Parade on August 4.

Faculty and staff are invited to join the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV delegation at the parade. Spots are limited in the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV delegation so  is required.

All registrants are invited to purchase one (1) item of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Pride Swag (t-shirt, tank top or hat) from the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Bookstore on Burnaby campus for a discounted price of $10. If you participated last year, we encourage you to reuse your T-shirt. Please show your registration at the check-out counter to receive your discount.

Accessibility Committee: Call for Expressions now closed

On June 18, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV issued a call for applications for new at-large members to be part of the Accessibility Committee. Applications are now closed, and the Equity Office is reviewing the submissions. The renewed committee will be announced in August.

With representation from alumni, students, staff, and faculty, the Accessibility Committee has supported the development of an accessibility action plan for the university, which is expected to be finalized and shared in fall 2024. This plan will incorporate the principles of inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination and universal design and help ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV meet its obligations under the Accessible British Columbia Act to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility.
