Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV: January 2024 in Review
¶¡ÏãÔ°AV continues to work towards a more equitable, diverse and inclusive campus environment for all individuals. Here is a snapshot of what the Equity Office has been up to in January.
ACT campaign
Last month, the ACT (Affirm Compassion Together) campaign was launched, calling on our university community members to take ACTions in creating a culture of compassion together at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Supports and resources as well as practical examples of what a culture of Inclusive Excellence looks like at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV were shared to support our people in creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive community where all feel welcome, safe, accepted and valued. Demographics and Diversity Data Survey
¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is working towards launching a demographics and diversity data collection survey in fall 2024. This project will fulfill ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s federal and provincial accountability and reporting requirements, help inform evidence-based decision-making at the university and track our progress towards creating a more inclusive campus community. A taskforce was established to move the work forward, with engagement planned with key stakeholders starting next month (February 2024).
Days of Significance
In January, the university recognized a number of significant occasions and events. These included: Sexual Assault Awareness Month and World Braille Day (on January 4). ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV also recognized and reflected on the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution on International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27). The National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia (Jan 29) was also recognized by ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV to reflect on the impacts of Islamophobia.
