Know before you go
After arriving, graduands have 9 steps they need to follow to the most of their convocation day. Review each step before the ceremonies so you know where to go, when to be there and what to do.
Guests and tickets
Graduands can invite up to 3 guests in round 1 of tickets being released. Tickets are required for all guests in Convocation Mall.
Dress
We strongly encourage you to dress appropriately. If it is cool, wear layers and consider bringing a blanket. If it's warm, bring a water bottle. A water station can be found near the procession line ups at AQ 4000 North and outside Convocation Mall.
Graduands should be aware that they will be standing and walking for long periods and distances. Please wear appropriate footwear.
Weather
Ceremonies are held in Convocation Mall which is outdoors and covered. Unpredictable west coast weather can mean we experience rain, wind, cold and hot fronts. Guests should check the weather before attending to ensure they are comfortable during the ceremony.
Child-minding
Consider making arrangements with family or friends for child-minding while you are convocating as children and infants cannot sit in the graduand seating area.
Step 1. Parchment pick-up
Location: AQ 3000 Southeast corner (map)
In order to ensure that you pick up your own original parchment, you will be required to present your 間眅埶AV student ID card or a valid government-issued picture ID, such as a driver's licence or passport.
Step 2. Regalia pick-up
Location: AQ 3000 North concourse (map)
Pick up your regalia at the Step 2 sign in the AQ. If you haven't reserved regalia, we may have on-site gown rentals for $60, also located at Step 2. Please see the representatives seated along the side wall.
Coat check
Our free coat check located near the regalia area (AQ 3000 Northeast concourse) is available to students and guests but is not liable for loss or theft. Unclaimed items are forwarded to 間眅埶AV Security one hour after each ceremony.
Due to limited space and to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all, this year we have implemented a restriction on bags in the celebration area. Please read our FAQs to learn more about our bag policy and to better understand if you can bring strollers, pets and large balloon bouquets into Convocation Mall.
Step 3. Hood pinned and pick up your cap
Location: AQ 3000 North concourse (map)
Head over to the pinning station to get your hood pinned and pick up your cap. Assistance will be provided or you can pin your hood yourself.
Step 4. Line up for the procession
Location: AQ 4000 North (map)
Graduands will line up in numerical order. Refer to the number on the white card, taped to the back of your parchment. The smallest numbers will start in the Northeast corner and the largest numbers will end in the Northwest corner.

- 1:45 p.m. for an afternoon ceremony
The procession will begin at 9:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
Step 5. Ceremony seating
Location: Convocation Mall
Ushers will guide graduands into Convocation Mall and into their seats.
Graduands will have assigned seats in the graduand section of Convocation Mall, and will not be seated with their guests.
Things to know
Graduands will be seated outdoors, under the covered part of Convocation Mall.
We stronly encourage you to dress appropriately for the weather. If it is cool, wear layers and consider bringing a blanket. If it's warm, please bring a water bottle. A water station is available on the AQ 4000 North and outside Convocation Mall.
Step 6. Before crossing the stage
Location: Convocation Mall
Prior to graduands crossing the stage, an Usher will guide you to the stage where Artona will take your graduation portrait.
What to carry with you
Don't carry anything onto the stage other than your parchment (and your hood if you are a doctoral student).
- Special exceptions can be made if cultural protocol requires you to carry a symbolic item.
- Purses and cameras should be left with your guests.
- Large bouquets of flowers or balloons might get squashed if you are carrying them, as the graduands are seated closely together.
Step 7. Cross the stage
Location: Convocation Mall
Your name will be announced and you will cross the stage and shake the hands of the Chancellor and then President. If you do not feel comfortable shaking hands, you may nod or put your hand over your heart in acknowledgement.
Smile! Artona will take a 2nd photo as you cross the stage.
Step 8. Return regalia
Location: AQ 3000 Northeast concourse (near Renaissance Coffee)
Return your regalia by 12:45 p.m. if you attended a morning ceremony and 5:00 p.m. if you attended an afternoon ceremony.
Bachelor's and Master's degree graduates can keep their cap as a keepsake.
