• Claire Attridge (C么t茅 lab), winner of the prize for best short talk at the Pacific Ecology and Evolution Conference (PEEC) in Victoria on March 20, for 'Diving into the past: Identifying ecosystem change through kelp-community relationships'
• Kieran Cox, post-doc in Isabelle C么t茅's lab, and colleagues launched Fish Sound project in March, an open database of the noises fish make (FishSounds.net), to lots of media attention. Listen to Kieran explain noise pollution, the conservation of Canada鈥檚 oceans, and how he became a marine ecologist on CBC鈥檚 North by Northwest (; starts at 37 min 40 sec).
  
• Emmanuel Hung, Gries lab, first prize winner for his oral presentation 'Sexually dimorphic flicker fusion and wing flash frequencies in biting flies: A potential basis for augmenting light traps' at the Annual Meeting of the Professional Pest Management Association of British Columbia in February.
  
• Em Lim: on 2 February Em won an Out-to-Innovate Career Development Fellowship for trans, intersex & non-binary grad students & postdocs in STEM.
