WinSETT Leadership Workshop Series

WWEST is excited to host the as they present all five of their professional development workshops in Vancouver for the first time. After successfully running this leadership program in Edmonton for a number of years, the WinSETT Centre is now offering it across Canada. These workshops are tailored primarily to early to mid-career women working in the traditionally male-dominated fields of science, engineering, technology and trades (SETT) but graduate students and upper undergraduates will also find them an incredibly valuable experience. The program has been developed by professionals based on the experiences of women in SETT and is grounded in research and practices that work.

Registration for all five workshops is highly encouraged, and registering before January 10th will give you a 5% early bird discount!

The first workshop, Becoming Leaders, will be on Jan. 20, 2017. It will cover the core competencies of leadership, explore the positives and negatives associated with becoming a leader in SETT, and teach you how to apply proven leadership tips and strategies in your workplace. For every 5 participants you enroll in the full workshop series, WinSETT will offer a complementary Special Topic Workshop in your office! These workshops are 60-90 minute interactive sessions led by a WinSETT facilitator. Topics include: Mentors vs. Sponsors, Implicit Bias & Stereotype Threat, Mastering Difficult Conversations, Working with Challenging People, and more.

Workshop Speaker: Lianna Mah, M. Eng., P. Eng., FEC

A civil engineering graduate from UBC, Lianna also has a Master of Engineering degree and more than 25 years' experience specializing in the design and construction of wastewater, water, and civil engineering projects. Currently, Lianna works as the Vice President of Business Development at , where she is responsible for business development, marketing, and communications. She is the corporate champion for Associated Engineering鈥檚 Women in Science & Engineering Retention (WISER) Committee.

Lianna is a guest lecturer at UBC and BCIT and has spoken at multiple conferences on topics including leadership, diversity, marketing, sales, and personal branding. She is an active volunteer with and an advocate for women in engineering. She has also served on committees for and (Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science, Trades and Technology), and has participated in a number of initiatives for . In recognition of her work with these organizations, Lianna received APEGBC鈥檚 2002 Professional Service Award and, in 2009, received the designation of Fellow from Engineers Canada. In 2015, Engineers Canada presented Lianna with the Award for the Support of Women in the Engineering Profession.

Workshop Speaker: Cole Brown

Cole Brown is the lead front-end developer at , a full service digital agency recognized as one of BC鈥檚 fastest growing companies. She is responsible for building web interfaces and guiding developers and projects to success through team mentorship, research, and strategy. She has worked in the industry for over 14 years, and is passionate about empowering technology users while they browse the web. Outside the office, Cole regularly mentors women beginning development careers and has presented workshops on web performance through local event groups like .

Workshop Facilitator: Cheryl Kristiansen, P. Eng.

Cheryl brings diverse expertise in project management, engineering innovation and leading transformative change in the SETT workplace. She has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, hands-on experience in alternate fuels technology, and senior leadership success in the oil and gas sector. As Managing Director of the Mitchell Odyssey Foundation, Cheryl developed a network of schools across BC with innovative programs that motivate and inspire high school students to pursue STEM careers. As Project Manager with (Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology), Cheryl led the MakePossible mentoring project to advance women (). Cheryl is a certified Kaset Facilitator for quality service and created the "Wild About Science" Odyssey symposium for educators. She has delivered a variety of training workshops across Canada, including MakePossible Diversity by Design workshops at UBC, 丁香园AV, BCIT, TRU, UNBC and various industry events.
