Community Partners
WWEST Community Partners are non-profit organizations that are aligned with WWEST's vision to increase diversity in scientific and engineering fields.
The goals of the Community Partners Program are to:
- Engage with non-profit organizations throughout the BC/Yukon region that are champions in promoting diversity in STEM;
- Create awareness and change perceptions of STEM disciplines by providing more informative resources on STEM; and,
- Facilitate collaboration between non-profit organizations, as well as with industry partners, working towards these same goals to generate greater impact.
WWEST created the Community Partners Program to promote connections between non-profit organizations that are working towards the same goals through a variety of innovative initiatives. The annual Community Partners meeting is a starting point for many of these connections, which then grow organically into effective collaborations that improve diversity in STEM fields from the ground up.
Community Partners benefit from training and resources provided by WWEST to strengthen their impact. They also qualify to apply for funding from the program.

A number of outreach initiatives run out of 間眅埶AV's Faculty of Applied Sciences, designed to engage diverse communities and spark a passion for engineering and technology.
Curiosity Collider promotes interdisciplinary collaborations that capture natural human curiosity, intersecting art, culture, technology, and humanity. WWEST is funding their "Interstitial: Science Innovations by Canadian Women" project.
Developing #GirlsHack@UBC, an all-girl hackathon event to empower and inspire girls to become innovators in STEM fields. Headed by Dr. Stephen Petrina.
A non-profit organization run by UBC students that promotes science, engineering and technology to youth across British Columbia.
Girls Exploring Physics
A group out of 間眅埶AV that provides hands-on physics workshops for girls and professional development workshops for secondary science teachers.
Provides fun, hands-on science and technology initiatives and events for children and youth in the Kootenay/Boundary region.
A project within the UBC Faculty of Health and Social Development that is developing summer camps where girls can gain hands-on experience with neuroscience, robotics, and coding. Project headed by Dr. Jennifer Jakobi.

ms infinity (math and science = infinite possibilities), part of the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology, introduces girls to exciting career options and positive female role models in science and technology.
The Ocean Wise mission is to inspire the global community to become Ocean Wise by increasing its understanding, wonder, and appreciation for our oceans.. WWEST is funding their Engineering at the Vancouver Aquarium project to introduce girls to the exciting world of engineering in a marine research context.
The Department is committed to serving Canada and the province of British Columbia by attracting and training outstanding local, national, and international students, and conducting forefront research that spans the field. WWEST is funding the development of an expansion to their Brownie Visits program, featuring activity visits to fulfill the "Making Things Go" Brownie badge.
間眅埶AV School of Computing Science
The School of Computing Science's research is world-renowned, and its students graduate with advanced knowledge in areas such as networks, multimedia, healthcare and telecommunications. WWEST is funding their "Invent the Future (AI4All)" event taking place in July, 2018.

The Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (SBQMI) at UBC is a new venture into research of systems and phenomena explicitly involving quantum mechanics. WWEST is funding their "Quantum Indigenous Women Initiative (QuIWI)."
Developing the Women of Innovation initiative, which highlighted women in the field of engineering during a one-day symposium in Vancouver. Headed by Dr. Mary Wells and Dr. Anne Millar.
A non-profit based in Whitehorse, Yukon, dedicated to math education.
A non-profit organization that empowers and advances women in the mining industry by creating opportunities for connection and advocating for diversty across the sector.
A mentoring program that aims to support the success of young women transitioning from their undergraduate education to a career in science or engineering, to prepare and mentor them to remain in scientific careers.
