Disabilities
Temporary Injuries & Illnesses
Temporary injuries and illnesses occur for a relatively short period of time, but have a serious impact on the student’s ability to function in his or her usual manner. These can include recovery from:
- Surgeries
- Fractures
- Broken bone
- Severe sprains
- Infections
- Other non-permanent injuries or illnesses
Academic assistance for temporary injuries and illnesses are academic concessions. If you have a temporary injury or illness, you should first connect with your instructor to discuss supports that may be appropriate to your condition and request their support around an academic concession. In relation to an academic concession approved by an instructor, CAL may provide assistive technologies (e.g., single hand keyboards, voice-to-text software) to support on an as needed basis.
Documentation Requirements
If assistance from CAL is required as approved by an instructor, please reach out to us by email at caladmin@sfu.ca or by phone at 778-782-3112. We may be able to advise on documentation needed to effectively address the impairment associated with your condition.
