Reciprocal Parking

Note that there is no free parking on the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby Campus. In addition, Parking and Sustainable Mobility Services both tickets and impounds vehicles found to be parking in reserved parking spaces or in safety violations. This information is a synopsis, please contact our offices or consult the parking regulations for more detailed information.

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Parking and Sustainable Mobility Services operates the parking at the Burnaby Campus. Different parking regulations apply at the Surrey and Downtown campuses. As ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV does not operate the parking at these campuses, reciprocal parking does not apply at those locations.

Reciprocating Institutions

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has reciprocal parking agreements with the following institutions:

  • British Columbia Institute of Technology
  • Trinity Western University
  • University of British Columbia
  • University of the Fraser Valley
  • University of Northern B.C.
  • University of Victoria

How it works

A Reciprocal Parking Agreement exists between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV) and some non-private educational institutions (listed above). This agreement only allows Faculty and Staff of qualifying organizations to park free of charge at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV for such activities as attending meetings or seminars of a departmental, academic or administrative nature between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and the qualifying institution, etc.

Faculty/Staff from qualifying institutions who are attending ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Burnaby campus for any of the above reasons may park free of charge in any of the visitor parking lots or visitor parkades so long as they have proof of a valid annual parking permit issued by their institution. To activate reciprocal parking, please email parking@sfu.ca a copy of your proof of permit with your parking request - if you qualify, your license plate will be added to the courtesy list for the day.

Reciprocal parking does not apply to faculty/staff who are attending ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV for any of the following reasons:

  • Attending classes at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.
  • Duties related to project-specific research or study.
  • The general use of library, athletic, dining, or theatre facilities.
  • Employment activities.
  • Matters of a personal nature.

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Faculty / Staff

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Faculty/Staff visiting reciprocating institutions should check with the parking department of that institution to confirm what the reciprocal parking rules & regulations are at that location.
