Summer Semester 2025 (1254): May 7th - August 26th, 2025. All clasess are held at the Burnaby campus uless otherwise indicated*. Offerings are contingent upon final budgetary authorization and enrolment numbers.
1 EASC 306 (Intersession): On campus dates April 28-30th and May 12th. Field school is held off-campus in South Okanagon May 1st - May 11th.
2 EASC308 (Summer Session): On campus field exercies August 17th (full day). Field school is held off-campus on Vancouver island, August 18th-August 28th.
Qualifications for TA/TM positions in the Department of Earth Sciences: A bachelor's or master's degree in Earth Sciences, or equivalent. The Department of Earth Sciences includes a wide range of specializations and, in order to be appointed, a person must have sufficient knowledge in the discipline of the course to interpret the course material, as demonstrated by either having taken the course or equivalent, or through graduatelevel research in the subject area.
Additional requirements for specific courses:
+FIELD TRIPS/SCHOOLS: TA must be available to travel on evenings/overnight/weekends, possess valid BC Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver's license, submit a current Drivers Abstract and valid First Aid Level One (minimum). EASC306 and EASC308 will involve overnight(s) out of town travel.
W COURSES : These are writing-intensive courses, TAs may be responsible for providing feedback on written work. Applicants must have above average technical writing skills and be able to critique and assess written assignments and reports. Applicants may be asked to provice writing sampes or other evidence of writing proficiency.
All successful applicants must demonstrate completion of the required safety training prior to the start of the course. Safety training requirements for each course are listed here. Retraining is not required if certification is still valid.
Teaching Assistant Pay Rates:
- Teaching Assistant salary per Base Unit (BU) -- $1242
- Associated Scholarship per Base Unit (BU) - does not apply to the 0.17
- GTA 1 (M.Sc.) $190
- GTA 2 (Ph.D.) $420

Duties, Responsibilities and Term of the Appointment for Teaching Assistants (TA) and Sessional Instructors
All successful aplicants must demonstrate completion of the required safety training prior to the start of the course. Safety training requirements for each course are listed here. Retraining is not required if certification is still valid.
TA/TM duties and scheduled hours will vary from course to course.
Applicants are expected to be available for the entire term of the contract.
TAs and TMs must be available to invigilate exams and TMs must be able to collect exams and course work for marking from, and return (once marked) to the 間眅埶AV Burnaby Campus.
