Sessional Instructor Postings
Information about Sessional Instructor postings, practices, and timelines
Please note that all Sessional Instructor positions involve membership in the ; and are subject to sufficient enrollment in the course, and FINAL budgetary authorization. The ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Department of English follows Article XIV (E.2) of the when hiring Sessional Instructors.
For Fall Semester, sessional instructor positions will be posted in the preceding May and advertised for two weeks. For Spring Semester, sessional instructor positions will be posted in the preceding October and advertised for two weeks. For Summer Semester, sessional instructor positions will be posted in the preceding January and advertised for two weeks.
Salary - Pay Transparency Act
The Sessional Instructor of the posted position will receive a salary of $10,442. Salaries are determined based on the total number of weekly contact hours (including the 1.25 contact hours for initial and ongoing preparation). For a more comprehensive understanding of the compensation structure, please consult the TSSU Collective Agreement for detailed information on wage schedules.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Tutor Markers (TMs)
Information about Teaching Assistant and Tutor Marker postings, practices, and timelines
For all TA/TM positions, postings shall occur on the Monday of the tenth (10) week prior to the commencement of the semester; when the Monday falls on a statutory holiday or when the University is closed, the next working day shall be used.
Duties and responsibilities of Tutor Markers can be found on Article XV: Distance Education Tutor/Marker in the . Please also note that Tutor Markers are expected to invigilate all scheduled exams. Exam schedules can be found on the .
Please note: TA/TM appointments for the Spring 2025 (1251) semester run from January 6th, 2025 to April 30th, 2025. Spring term classes run from January 3rd, 2025 to April 9th, 2025. Please note you may be required to invigilate exams during the exam period. The exam period for the fall term is from April 22nd, 2025 to April 26th, 2025.
Salary Range - Bill 13 Pay Transparency Act:
The salary range for TA positions varies from GTA 1, which includes a salary of $6303 and a $905 scholarship, to GTA 2, which comprises a $6303 salary and a $2055 scholarship. Salaries are determined based on the TA's level of education and assigned term workload (base units). For a more comprehensive understanding of the compensation structure, please consult the TSSU Collective Agreement for detailed information on wage schedules.
