Directed Readings
HIST 489-4 and HIST 490-4 Studies in History are courses set aside for Directed Readings. Advanced level students who are interested in an in-depth study of a subject not covered or not fully covered by an existing course may approach a faculty member to supervise them in a Directed Readings course. While most of these courses will work towards a large research paper, the precise details of the course will vary by instructor and subject. These courses are 400 level 4 unit courses and can be applied to meet group requirements based on the topic of study.
If you have an area of History you would like to study in greater depth, approach instructors who work in that area (generally or specifically) to see if this might be an option for you.
To register for Directed Readings, students can obtain a form from the Undergraduate Advisor. When the signature of the supervising professor is obtained, return the form and you will be added to the class.
