An initiative for Greek language education, developed by the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in a collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
is a collaboration of the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies and the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad in the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to deliver new tools for Greek language education to the diaspora. Children of the diaspora can now travel the wonderful world of Greek language, mythology and culture, all from their home computer, mobile phone, or tablet.
Developed by the SNF New Media Lab with the generous support of the , is a new online platform and suite of apps released as a beta version in response to the current global pandemic and aims to support educational initiatives in a time of physical distancing for learners that range from preschool children to young adults. Work continues on the platform and the full version, including an app for Greek mythology, will be released in September 2020, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed interest in customizing and adapting the platform for Spanish, German, and French users.
Thanks to the invaluable help of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and GGAE, this initiative will reach the widest possible audience and support existing education programs developed by the Greek state and community organizations, including embassies, consulates, community schools, and Greek cultural institutions. Our aim is to complement existing initiatives with new tools for Greek language learning and cultural immersion.
grew out the Rebooting the Greek Language project, a two-year initiative supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to bring new technologies and advances in pedagogy to bear on the preservation of the Greek language in the diaspora. The project brought together an interdisciplinary team of technologists, designers and educators coordinated by the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies, on the one hand, and officials of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by the General Secretary Mr. Ioannis Chrysoulakis, on the other. The project employed a team of talented young Greeks, who embedded in the SNF New Media Lab’s distributed workplace, which allowed them to complete their work, without having to leave their homes in Greece.
