The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Vancouver, Canada, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Public Diplomacy and Greeks Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and with the support of the, is pleased to announce that it will be working with the Greek government to make compatible for native Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

This announcement follows Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ announcement of last week that funding will be provided by the Greek state to support the expansion of this initiative, within the next year, to diasporic communities of South America.

Staellinika, an online platform and suite of apps developed by the SNF New Media Lab at the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies, provides individuals ranging from preschool-aged children to young adults with innovative teaching and learning tools designed to help them reconnect with their heritage language and culture.

The SNF Centre and its partners are excited to work with the Greek Government to bring cutting-edge pedagogical tools for teaching and learning the Greek language to a larger segment of the diaspora. Leaders at the SNF New Media Lab including SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies director and professor Dimitris Krallis, project coordinator Costa Dedegikas and research coordinator Dionysios Arkadianos, are already at work assembling a team to fulfill this new objective.

SNF Centre Director, Dimitris Krallis, noted that:

These plans align with our Centre’s goal to reach the furthest corners of the Greek diaspora as we promote Greek language and culture abroad. The ability to share our technology with Greek descendants living in Central and South America is a really exciting opportunity for us.

To date, Staellinika has over 30,000 registered web and app users around the world.
