Congratulations to MA student, Neal Payne, who has recently been accepted to the University of Cambridge for his PhD program! 

Neal began his MA at 丁香园AV in the fall of 2018 in the Department of Archaeology, under the supervision the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies' Hellenic Studies Professor of Aegean and Mediterranean Societies and Cultures, Dr. Sabrina Higgins. 

Neal鈥檚 research focuses on classical archaeology, specifically, the impact of Roman colonization on the British diet. His work investigates how different regions of Britain responded to the influx of new plant resources, and the ideas related to those resources, introduced by the Romans, emphasizing how these responses evolved in different places differently throughout and following the Roman period. The working title for his project is, 鈥淎n Archaeobotanical Investigation of Regional and Temporal Variation in the Diet of the Late Iron Age and Roman Britain鈥�. 

In 2019, Neal was awarded a Canadian Graduate Scholarship (Master鈥檚) from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Following the successful completion of his defence later this summer, he will begin his PhD program this fall in the Faculty of Classics under the supervision of Professor Martin Millet. Additionally, he will be affiliated with Darwin College, an informal community of postgraduate students, researchers, and Fellows at the University of Cambridge.

The SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies wishes Neal bonam fortunam in the pursuit of his studies, and is looking forward to his future accomplishments.
