October is a busy month at the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies! We have an exciting lineup of events planned which includes seminars, lectures, and even a film screening! Whether you are a student, scholar, or philhellene in your own right, we invite you to join us!

Staellinika officially released

Last week we announced the official release of Staellinika, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Public Diplomacy and Greeks Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and with the support of the . , an online platform and suite of apps, provides users that range from preschool-aged children to young adults with an innovative and engaging product designed to re-connect Greeks around the world with their heritage language and culture.

Upcoming Edward and Emily McWhinney memorial lecture

Dont forget to featuring Harris Mylonas from George Washington Universitys Elliott School of International Affairs on Monday, October 19th at 5:30 PM PT. The public talk titled Charismatic Leadership and its Discontents: The Case of Greece will examine why Greece experienced such a strong blow to its party system relative to other crisis-stricken countries of the eurozone, by examining the legacy of two charismatic leaders Constantine Karamanlis and Andreas Papandreou.

Searching for Andreas film screening

In collaboration with the Department of Political Science and the Edward and Emily McWhinney Professor in International Relations at 間眅埶AV, we are pleased to host a second night with Associate professor Harris Mylonas for the screening of his recent documentary . The film examines the life and legacy of one of Europes most controversial leaders, Andreas Papandreou, revealing the pitfalls of charismatic leadership and the limits of democratic politics under the pressure of economic globalization.

Going After Eva Palmer Sikelianos

In collaboration with the , we will as part of the Fall Seminar Series. This seminar will recount some of Leontis adventures pursuing the hidden archival resources of Eva Palmer Sikelianos life, then foreground the stakes of modern encounters with the ancient Greeks in the light of spectrums of meaning found in Palmer' legacy. 

Mapping the Margins: Introducing the Central Achaia Phthiotis Survey 

Alongside our co-sponsor, the , we are Her paper will introduce the new landscape project, the Central Achaia Phthiotis Survey (CAPS), which focuses on the interplay between environmental, geopolitical, cultural and social factors for community/ies living in a region in Thessaly (central Greece) through time.
