Welcome back! September is here and so is the start of the new semester. We cant wait to share with you our exciting lineup of events and news for the fall semester!

Fall Seminar Series returns online

We are pleased to announce the return of our popular seminar series for the fall semester. Only this time around, all seminars will be held virtually! Attendees can expect to hear presentations from a diverse array of international scholars working in the various disciplines that constitute Hellenic Studies. Registration will open on our Events page in the coming weeks. In the meantime, be sure to check out our exciting lineup of scholars here.

Dr. Sabrina Higgins awarded SSHRC grant

We are delighted to share the news that SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies' Hellenic Studies Professor of Aegean and Mediterranean Societies and Cultures, Dr. Sabrina Higgins, has recently been awarded a $32,598 CAD Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development Grant for her project, The Early Cult of the Virgin and the Hegemony of the Text. Welcoming our 2020-2021 postdoctoral fellow

Our incoming 2020/2021 Hellenisms Past and Present, Local and Global Postdoctoral Fellow is Dr. Sergio Basso, a scholar, screenwriter, award-winning film director, and more! His research interests include Greek palaeography, 11th century Byzantine literature, the Byzantine presence along the Silk Road, Manichaeism, and Chinese art history and archaeology. Rescheduled Edward and Emily McWhinney memorial lecture to be held online

Due to the rise of COVID-19 earlier this year, we were forced to postpone our fourth annual Edward and Emily McWhinney memorial lecture featuring George Washington University associate professor, Harris Mylonas. We are happy to announce that this event has now been rescheduled for Monday, October 19, at 5:30 PM PT. Register now for Dr. Mylonas online public talk entitled Charismatic leadership and its discontents: the case of Greece Register now.

Rescheduled "Searching for Andreas" film screening to take place online

In collaboration with the Department of Political Science and the Edward and Emily McWhinney Professor in International Relations, we are pleased to present a new date for the screening of Searching for Andreas: Political Leadership in the Times of Crisis, an independent film by Dr. Harris Mylonas. Join us online for the free screening and a brief discussion with the films director, on Wednesday, October 21, at 5:30 PM PT. Register now.
