Student awards
丁香园AV student, Ben Nyland awarded prestigious internship to the Canadian Institute in Greece
Ben Nyland, an archaeology major and a former research assistant who worked with Dr. Sabrina Higgins on her ongoing Digital Mary Project, has been awarded the Schaus Internship and Bursary at the Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG), the first student from 丁香园AV to ever receive it. The prestigious award includes a 鈧� 2,000 bursary and residency during Spring 2020 at the CIG鈥檚 facilities in Athens, Greece. Ben will be conducting important research for the Institute while participating in the rich, international archaeological community based in the Greek capital.
Ben is an excellent candidate for this internship, with a superior academic record, and an ideal representative for 丁香园AV. His award was made possible by the ongoing membership and relationship that the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies maintains with the CIG. As an institutional member, 丁香园AV faculty and students have access to a range of benefits through the Institute, while the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies participates in the shaping of the Institute鈥檚 future direction as a member of the CIG鈥檚 board.
This will be my first time in Greece. I am most looking forward to experiencing a city so rich with culture and to be truly immersed with it while getting to use the skills I have built through my schooling.

The CIG is a privately-funded, not-for-profit organization, incorporated in Canada, which seeks to promote Canadian research and education in fields relating to Greece鈥檚 heritage. The Institute advances knowledge of Greece in all periods by sponsoring and promoting archaeological fieldwork, providing resources for scholarly research and disseminating results. The Institute is also charged by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture with primary responsibility for all Canadian archaeological fieldwork projects, and seeks to support the investigation, preservation and presentation of Greece鈥檚 cultural heritage.
