Purpose
To engage students in thinking about how the course material applies to critical issues in the news.
Overview
Students are invited to select and share a recent news article that relates to the course content. They then consider how the media portrayal of the issues are different than the perspectives shared in class, and discuss how the course content relates to real world issues.
Context
This activity was developed for an African History class, but could be adapted for any course.
Benefits
This activity supports students to consider the real world applications of course topics, and reflect on how they might contribute to local and global issues.
